THE HERITAGE OF DON FACUNDO BACARDÍ

Inspired by the vision of creating a rum that represents a work of art that the world has never seen before, the Bacardí family created the Facundo Rum Collection. In this way, the legacy of the legendary Don Facundo Bacardí Massó is to be honored.

Don Facundo Bacardí: Birth of a Legend

The son of a Spanish mason family, Don Facundo Bacardí Massó was born in 1814 in Sitges, southwest of Barcelona. At just 16, he followed his older brothers to Santiago in Cuba in 1830, where he found employment in their general store. In 1844, with the money he earned there, he founded his own merchandise business and shortly thereafter began experimenting with the process of rum distilling.

Every Beginning is Hard

In a long and tedious trial and error process, Facundo succeeded in developing a unique distillation method in a combination of fermenting cognac yeast, charcoal filtration and subsequent aging in white oak barrels. In this way, he created an elegant and subtle drop from a raw and inferior drink. This he offered in the grocery store of his brother for sale, whereupon the rum developed very quickly to a bestseller.

Bacardí and Company Manages the Worldwide Breakthrough

Then acquired Bacardí in 1862 with his partners a distillery and founded the "Bacardí, Boutellier and Company", which was finally renamed in 1874 in "Bacardí and Company". To give his product a catchy branding, he began to sign each rum delivery with a bold "Bacardí M" for Bacardi Massó. He also used the now iconic Bacardí logo for the Bacardí brand. Bacardí rum gained in popularity by winning numerous prizes at international exhibitions until it was sold all over Cuba and eventually all over the world. To this day, Bacardí stands for an incomparable rum enjoyment.

A Work of Art in Honor of the Life's Work of Don Facundo Bacardí Massóy

To honor the life work of Don Facundo Bacardí Massó with a unique piece of art worldwide, the Bacardí family created the Facundo Rum Collection. For this purpose, the most sought-after rum reserves of the Bacardí family were used. This blend of dark rums aged up to 23 years is filtered using activated charcoal and then aged for a further month in French XO barrels for ripening. As a result of these creations, four different and outstanding rum variations emerged: The Facundo Eximo is presented in an aromatic variation of caramel, walnut, and toffee. The Facundo Neo reveals itself in a fruity note, with a fine hint of almond and vanilla. The Fucando Paraíso, which produces a pleasure experience of nutmeg, caramelised vanilla and marzipan and the Facundo Exquisito, which develops on the palate a particularly soft and warm aroma.
